Job Description
Supervises : Surveillance Specialist
Reports to : RISE Project Director
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide technical oversight for the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of public health policies and programs pertaining to surveillance of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, particularly those with epidemic and pandemic potential at POEs
- Strengthen the capacity of surveillance officers at the district level, such as the training of surveillance officers on the new Integrated Disease Surveillance and Reporting (IDSR) guidelines, EWARS, and availing the updated guidelines
- Support the Ghana Health Service to deliver event-based surveillance and other technical support in response to outbreaks
- Support and organize the deployment of surge teams at vulnerable POE sites such as Aflao Port
- Enhance the compilation and submission of IDSR data
- Conduct regular field supervision visits to POEs, routinely mentoring health teams in counties with POEs for the detection and response to outbreaks
- Undertake other leadership, coordination and management activities relevant to the project
Required Skills or Experience
Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities
- Degree in medicine, health sciences or related field
- Masters’ degree in Epidemiology, Statistics or similar
- Field Epidemiology Training Program graduate preferred
- At least five years’ related experience, at the national level, in quantitative epidemiology and the implementation of public health surveillance, outbreak investigation, and response in humanitarian settings
- At least three years’ experience in leading and managing donor-funded programs and teams
- Demonstrated experience working with USG programs and strong familiarity with USG reporting requirements.
- Technical expertise in disease surveillance of infectious diseases
- Experience in disease outbreak response and familiarity with IHR (2005) is an advantage
- Knowledge and experience of integrated disease surveillance and reporting (IDSR) guidelines and operating mechanisms
- Proficiency in analysis. Interpretation and visualization of data
- Demonstrated skills in training/ orientating teams on active and passive surveillance
- Proven ability to multitask across various planning and implementation processes within a highly demanding
- environment.
- Excellent writing, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Epi-Info, DHIS2, and other reporting platforms
- Ability and willingness to travel in the country
