More Photos and Videos of the Turkey and Syria Earthquakes

Here are some photos and videos of the Turkey and Syria earthquakes on Monday morning at 4:17am (01:17 GMT).

More than 2,200 people were murdered and thousands more were injured in Turkey and northwest Syria as a result of a massive earthquake on Monday. The earthquake flattened apartment buildings and added to the devastation already present in Syrian cities as a result of years of war.

The magnitude 7.8 earthquake was the worst to hit Turkey this century and struck just before morning in cold winter weather. It was immediately followed by a 7.7-magnitude big earthquake in the early afternoon.

The extent of the second earthquake’s destruction was not immediately apparent, but it was felt throughout the area like the first and put rescuers working to extricate victims from the wreckage at risk.
