There is a new alert Scholars Program is designed to build a multidisciplinary community of Stanford graduate students dedicated to finding creative solutions to the world’s greatest challenges. Each year the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program will identify a group of 100 high-achieving students from around the world with demonstrated leadership and civic commitment to receive full funding to pursue a wide-ranging graduate education at Stanford, with the goal of developing a new generation of global leaders. The Knight-Hennessy Scholars is the largest fully endowed scholars program in the world. In addition to the opportunities that students will pursue through the Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program, they will find ample opportunity to build leadership skills specific to their discipline.The Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program funds up to three years of your graduate education. If your degree program exceeds three years, such as an MD or PhD program, then your home department will fund the remainder of your education to the extent consistent with its standard funding commitment for that program

Knight-Hennessy scholars receive funding for up to three years for any graduate degree(s) at Stanford. During each of the first 3 years of graduate study, Knight-Hennessy Scholars receive:

-A travel stipend intended to cover an economy-class ticket for one annual trip to and from Stanford -A fellowship applied directly to cover tuition and associated fees , stipend for living and academic expenses (such as room and board, books, academic supplies, instructional materials, local transportation, and reasonable personal expenses)

Additional funding specific to certain years:

Newly enrolling scholars receive a one-time relocation stipend intended to offset some of the costs associated with relocation to the area and/or technology purchases

  • Scholars in their second and third years may apply for supplemental funds to support academic enrichment activities (e.g. conference travel).

Knight-Hennessy Scholars Eligibility Summary:

To be eligible for the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program at Stanford University, applicants must meet two key requirements:

  1. Stanford Graduate Program Enrollment:
    Applicants must apply to, be accepted by, and enroll in a full-time Stanford graduate degree program (e.g., MA, MBA, MD, MFA, MS, PhD, etc.). They must meet one of the following conditions:
  • Apply concurrently to KHS and a Stanford graduate program, starting both in the same year.
  • Have a deferred admission to a Stanford graduate program and apply to KHS for the same start year.
  • Be a current Stanford graduate student adding a second full-time graduate program.
  • Be a current Stanford PhD student in their first year, applying for KHS to start in their second PhD year.
  1. Bachelor’s Degree Requirement:
    Applicants must have earned a U.S. bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution by January 2019 or later (for the 2025 cohort).
