MTN Bright Scholarship Reloaded

At the awards ceremony in Accra, an Executive at MTN, George Kyei Frimpong, said the scholarship scheme targeted brilliant, needy students and was part of efforts by MTN to invest in the quality of lives of people.

“The MTN Ghana Foundation, since its inception has committed itself to providing sustainable projects in health, education and economic empowerment to improve livelihoods,” he said.

Dr. Gloria Asare, a board member of the MTN Ghana Foundation, described the scholarship in more detail. She added that this year, the foundation made the decision to prioritize students pursuing courses in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), as well as vocational and technical skills.

The six newly established regions of Bono East, Ahafo, Savannah, Northeast, Western North, and Oti were also areas of focus for the selection committee, as were students who were physically challenged and were enrolled in information and communications technology (ICT) courses.

MTN decided to extend the MTN Bright Scholarship for an additional three years with a new focus and dynamism due to its high success record, she said.

“The 300 beneficiaries of the first batch of MTN Bright Scholarship all had the same challenge, lack of funding while in school.

Bright Scholarship became the turning point for them: MTN Bright Scholarship changed their lives for good,” she said.

She claimed that the scholarship would not only reduce the students’ financial burden and allow them to successfully complete their studies, but it would also have a positive effect on the recipients’ lives and help them become future leaders.
