Hushpuppi, also known as Ramon Abass, was given an 11-year term for money laundering and internet fraud.
After months of what appeared to be a sluggish judicial process, this previously extremely amusing and contentious personality—whom some may refer to as a socialite—finally received a punishment.

Hushpuppi was arrested by Dubai authorities in the United Arab Emirates in June 2020 as a result of a complex fraud scheme that defrauded individuals in the United States, Qatar, the United Kingdom, and other countries of their money.
Before he was swiftly extradited to the United States and turned over to the American Federal Bureau of Investigation, 11 additional individuals were detained.
It was widely believed that the arrest of the man was caused by his extravagant lifestyle, which he flaunted on social media. However, the same material he published helped make him popular on social media.
After his incarceration, he gained recognition and sparked increased curiosity, leading to certain references to him appearing in popular culture and Nollywood requesting the rights to his narrative.

He admitted to scamming multiple persons and institutions after being apprehended and begged US Judge Otis Wright to spare him a harsh punishment and keep him from being sent back to Nigeria.
He was stated to have been on his best behaviour while in prison, scoring highly on cleanliness tasks, and to have been very cooperative with the police during the inquiry that followed his arrest.
He had spent the last two years at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago, Illinois; however, it is unclear which jail he would be sent to.
