The Black Stars will face the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the final leg of the World Cup playoffs at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi. Ghana had been under pressure to provide a suitable venue for the game after the Cape Coast stadium was banned and this will come as a relief.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has granted permission for the World Cup Qatar 2022 playoff match between Ghana and Nigeria to be held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi for one match only.

The approval came after a CAF Licensing Inspector toured the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.

It had been planned that Ghana’s final game in the 2022 qualifiers would be played at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, which had hosted all of Ghana’s previous qualifiers until images depicting the deterioration of the pitch surfaced online.

The Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) petition to FIFA over the poor condition of the Cape Coast Sports Stadium surface prompted the CAF Licensing Inspector’s visit.

CAF has stated that until the day of the match, an onsite stadium inspector would conduct additional inspections of the facilities and that if the above-mentioned conditions are not met before the match, Ghana will face financial penalties.

Ghana will play Nigeria in the opening leg at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Friday, March 25, 2022, at 19:30 GMT.
