Green for Change Ghana is seeking to hire project field officers to plan and assist in the day-to-day operations and implementation of the project’s activities.

Job Description

Project Summary

Green for Change Ghana in partnership with Ranas Ltd. (a Switzerland-based company with expertise in behavior change) has received partial funding from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Audemars Watkins Foundation (AWF) to implement a scientific research project named “Addressing Behavioral Barriers Associated with Tree Planting (ABBAT)”. The initiative aims at exploring the psychosocial and cultural barriers associated with tree planting and forest protection within the Mole Landscape and developing effective solutions for addressing them. The project will be implemented in three (3) districts: West Gonja, Sawla/Tuna/Kalba, and Wa East.

Job Location: Damongo, Sawla, or Wa

About the Position

This position will provide general day-to-day support for fieldwork and perform other duties related to the implementation and supervision of the ABBAT planned activities such as Capacity Building and Training, Behavior Change Campaigns (BCC), and seedlings distribution.

The field officers will work in close coordination with the technical lead to ensure quality of work, coherence, and consistency in activity implementation. Successful candidates should fulfill the following requirements:

Responsibilities/Key Functions

  • Plan and assist in the day-to-day operations and implementation of the project’s activities.
  • Collaborate with the Project manager and implementing partners to ensure efficient implementation of the project’s activities through working closely with partner field staff to ensure stimulant coordination of activities and other tasks.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships and lines of communication with relevant local authorities and communities, explaining the nature of the program and liaising with them throughout the project.
  • Guarantee community involvement at all phases of the program (implementation, monitoring, and evaluation) to ensure the development of community ownership for the project outputs.
  • Report any variations or problems with the implementation of activities to relevant staff and Project Officer to propose remedial actions as needed.

  • Provide capacity building to village communities, community volunteers (and others as requested), and encourage local participation and management.
  • Develop/participate in the preparation of training material and awareness messages as needed.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and participate in all in-house professional development activities, meetings, and planning sessions.
  • Ensure project data and achievements are reported on a weekly basis and feed into the monthly indicator tracker.
  • Contribute to documenting experiences, and preparing reports, presentations, briefs, and articles for publication.
  • Maintain a strong and supportive relationship with Mole National Park (MNP), the Department of Agriculture, FSD, Ranas Ltd, and local and international researchers.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or above in natural resources management, social sciences, or other developmental studies
  • 2-3 years of community work experience, preferably related to the type of project.
  • Excellent skills in monitoring the implementation of program activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement training programs for smallholder farmers especially.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and at least one local language of the operation area (Gonja, Dagaare, or Vagla)
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication skills and good team spirit.
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft Office essentials.
  • Able to work under minimal supervision.
